Pant Compared to Lara Sobers by England Legend
England legend David Gower has heaped praise on Indian star Rishabh Pant, comparing him to iconic left-handers like Brian Lara and Gary Sobers. The comparison came after Pant’s courageous half-century in the fourth Test against England in Manchester, despite suffering a toe fracture on Day 1.
Pant had to retire hurt but surprised fans and experts by returning to bat on Day 2, scoring a quickfire 54 off 75 balls. However, he did not take up wicketkeeping duties, with Dhruv Jurel stepping in behind the stumps. Gower highlighted Pant’s impact and flair, calling him “extraordinary” and unlike any other player in world cricket today.
According to Gower, Pant brings a level of unpredictability and creativity that is rare. He emphasized that Pant’s style is impossible to teach, adding, “You cannot ask a 15 or 16-year-old to bat like Rishabh Pant. It would be fatal to their game.”
Gower Expresses Regret Over Pant’s Injury
Gower didn’t hide his disappointment about Pant’s injury, stating, “I’m actually so sorry that he’s injured. He’s someone who does things others can only dream of.” He further said Pant takes the art of batting to an “incredible” level and his absence is a big loss not only for India but also for cricket fans across the world.
As per reports, Pant has been advised to rest for six weeks, raising doubts over his participation in the final Test of the series. The BCCI has yet to issue an official update, but his determination to return and perform despite the injury has already won hearts.
Pant’s presence on the field is often game-changing, and his fearless approach has made him a fan favorite. Cricket lovers across the globe now await his recovery, hoping to see more brilliance from him in the matches to come.
