Yuvraj Singh's Special Message to India Women’s World Cup 2025
The Women’s World Cup 2025 is just around the corner, set to begin in India and Sri Lanka on September 30. The opening match in Bengaluru will feature the two host nations facing off. With only 49 days left, former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh shared an inspiring message for the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian team.
Yuvraj urged the team to block outside noise and unlock their true potential.
Yuvraj Shares Lessons from 2011 World Cup Win
At a recent event in Mumbai, Yuvraj recalled a powerful moment from India’s 2011 Men’s World Cup triumph. He spoke about the pressure they faced and how they dealt with it.
“Until then, no country had won the World Cup at home. It had been 28 years since India last won the tournament. We tied against England and lost to South Africa, even from a winning position. The backlash was intense,” he said.
Yuvraj revealed how Sachin Tendulkar and coach Gary Kirsten helped the team reset their mindset.
“They told us—‘From here on, no watching TV, no reading newspapers. Put on your headphones while going to the ground and back. Focus only on your game.’ That advice helped us cut the noise and perform,” he added.
Advice to the Indian Women’s Team: Focus and Unity
Yuvraj, the 2011 Player of the Tournament, told the Indian women’s team to stay in the moment and focus on what matters.
India came close in 2017, reaching the final but losing to England. In 2022, they didn’t make the semi-finals. Yuvraj believes that belief and team unity are key.
“I’m not saying what worked for us will work for you. But if the team believes in one goal, and works towards it together, it might just work,” he said.
Believe in Each Other, Every Game
Yuvraj emphasized the importance of trust and confidence within the team.
“Every time you walk into a game, believe you can win it for your country. If Smriti gets out, Harman must step up. If Harman falls, Jemimah must take charge. Each player should walk out knowing they can make the difference,” he said.
He added that if all 11 players believe in themselves and in each other, the results will follow.
