Suryakumar Yadav Injury Update Ahead of Asia Cup 2025
India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav injury update brings positive news for fans ahead of the Asia Cup 2025. The Mumbai Indians batter underwent sports hernia surgery in June in Munich, Germany. After surgery, he joined the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to work on his recovery. Initial reports suggested he could be fit for the Men’s Asia Cup. However, according to the Times of India, Suryakumar is yet to attain full fitness.
The star batter will remain at the NCA for another week. He will train under the supervision of physios and the medical team. The Men’s Asia Cup will start on September 9. India will play their first match on September 10 against the UAE.
Suryakumar is expected to recover in time to lead India in the eight-team tournament. Last week, he posted a video on Instagram showing his return to training at the NCA. The clip showed him running, exercising, and hitting the nets. “Can’t wait to be back doing what I love,” Suryakumar Yadav wrote on Instagram.
The right-hander last played in the IPL 2025 season for Mumbai Indians. He had an exceptional campaign, scoring 717 runs. He finished as the second-highest run-scorer behind Sai Sudharsan of Gujarat Titans, who won the Orange Cap.
Hardik Pandya Checks Into NCA for Fitness Tests
The Times of India report also revealed that Hardik Pandya has checked into the NCA ahead of the Asia Cup. The Indian all-rounder will undergo a routine fitness test on August 11 and 12. Hardik has been training in Mumbai since mid-July. He will play a crucial role for India in the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup 2026, which will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
Shreyas Iyer Completes Fitness Assessment
Shreyas Iyer completed his fitness assessment at the NCA between July 27 and 29. Despite strong performances for Mumbai in domestic cricket, he missed selection for the Test series against England. Earlier this year, Shreyas led Punjab Kings to the IPL final. However, his place in the Asia Cup T20I squad is uncertain. He last played a T20I for India in December 2023.
