Suresh Raina Slams PCB After India’s Boycott
South Africa Champions crushed Pakistan Champions in the World Championship of Legends 2025 final held in Birmingham.
In the WCL 2025 summit clash, South Africa chased 195 with ease, thanks to AB de Villiers’ unbeaten 120. Pakistan posted 195/5 after choosing to bat first. Sharjeel Khan top-scored with a quickfire 76 off 44 balls. But de Villiers stole the show again, smashing a 60-ball 120\* to hand the Proteas a nine-wicket win in 16.5 overs.
Suresh Raina Congratulates Proteas, Takes a Dig at Pakistan
After South Africa’s dominant win, Suresh Raina congratulated the Proteas and took a dig at Pakistan on X (formerly Twitter): “What a knock by ABdeVilliers17 in the final, absolutely smashed it. Had we played, we would’ve crushed them too, but we chose our nation above everything else. Full respect to @EaseMyTrip and @nishantpitti for standing firm and not supporting any match involving them. That’s real character,” wrote Raina.
India Champions, led by Yuvraj Singh, had opted out of both their league and semi-final matches against Pakistan. This was in protest of the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, prioritising national sentiment over competition.
PCB Slams WCL, Announces Blanket Ban Over “Bias”
Following the controversy, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a complete ban on future participation in the WCL. In its 79th Board of Governors meeting, PCB condemned the tournament organisers for rewarding India despite forfeits.
“The PCB, during its 79th BoG meeting held virtually under the chairmanship of Mohsin Naqvi reviewed with considerable disappointment WCL’s appalling conduct of awarding points to a willfully forfeiting team, and the content of the press releases of the WCL announcing the cancellation of the scheduled India vs. Pakistan legends matches, which were tainted with hypocrisy and bias.”
With the PCB’s withdrawal, WCL’s credibility and future face strong questions.
South Africa’s flawless run and AB de Villiers’ heroics, however, remain the biggest highlights of WCL 2025.
