Injured Gill Travels to Support India
Shubman Gill may miss the second Test in Guwahati, but he continues to inspire the team. Despite a painful neck injury, he decided to travel with the squad. He wants to stay close to the players, lift their morale, and guide them as captain.
Gill hurt his neck while batting on Day 2 of the Kolkata Test. The Indian medical team stopped him from playing further. Doctors admitted him to Woodlands Hospital for close monitoring. He returned home on Sunday, but he still needs rest and limited movement.
Doctors advised him to avoid travel because the trip could worsen the injury and affect his long-term career. Gill still chose to stay with the team.
A source told NDTV, “Shubman wants to be with the team. His chances of playing are almost zero, but he will travel for support. The final decision will come on the 21st.”
India trail 0–1 in the series and face a must-win game on November 22. Gill’s presence, even off the field, may boost the team’s confidence.
Pant Likely to Take Charge
Vice-captain Rishabh Pant may lead India in Gill’s absence. His energy, aggression, and natural leadership make him the strongest option. India need a sharp response after their 30-run defeat at Eden Gardens.
Nitish Kumar Reddy Rejoins the Squad
India called back all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy for the second Test. He had joined India A for the unofficial ODI series against South Africa A, where the team leads 2–0. Reddy brings balance as a right-handed batter and an all-round option. His return gives India more flexibility as they search for the best combination.
Gill’s decision to travel with the squad, even while injured, shows his commitment and growing leadership influence. India now prepare for a crucial match without their captain but with his support from the sidelines.
