Shubman Gill on Pant’s Run-Out and India’s Loss at Lord’s
India captain Shubman Gill has opened up about the turning point in their 22-run defeat to England at Lord’s, pointing to Rishabh Pant’s run-out in the first innings. Pant, who had made a strong 74 off 112 balls, was dismissed just before lunch on Day 3 after a miscommunication with KL Rahul. The two had formed a 141-run partnership, but Pant’s run-out allowed England to fight back.
Pant attempted to get Rahul back on strike as he neared his century, but a direct throw from Ben Stokes found Pant short of the crease, leading to his dismissal. Gill, however, refused to blame Rahul, clarifying that the decision to run was made by Pant. “It was more of an error in judgment than a personal milestone issue. Pant made the call, and it was just one of those things that happens in cricket,” Gill explained.
Pant’s Injury and India’s Fight at Lord’s
After the first innings, both teams had posted 387 runs, setting up an exciting finish. Washington Sundar’s four wickets helped India dismiss England for 192 in their second innings, leaving India a manageable target of 193. But despite a valiant knock from Ravindra Jadeja, who finished unbeaten on 61, India fell 22 runs short, collapsing to 112/8 at one stage.
In addition to the loss, Pant also suffered an injury to his hand while keeping wickets. He didn’t take the field in the second innings, with Dhruv Jurel stepping in as a substitute. Gill, however, reassured fans about Pant’s condition, stating, “Rishabh went for scans, and there’s nothing major. He should be fit for the next Test in Manchester.”
India now looks to regroup and bounce back in the fourth Test, with the series standing 2-1 in England’s favor.
