Shubman Gill Nominated for ICC Player of the Month Award
India’s Shubman Gill, England’s Ben Stokes, and South Africa’s Wiaan Mulder have been nominated for the ICC Player of the Month Award. All three earned recognition for their standout performances in recent Test series.
Shubman Gill’s Record-Breaking Run
Shubman Gill received his nomination after a phenomenal month in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Leading India for the first time in an away Test series, he guided the team to a thrilling 2-2 draw against England. The five-match series is already being hailed as one of the best of the century.
According to the ICC, “Shubman Gill had a sensational month, amassing 567 runs at an impeccable average of 94.50 in three Tests during India’s gripping series in England.”
Gill’s overall performance was historic. He scored 754 runs in the series, with four centuries and a double ton, averaging 75.40. This broke Sunil Gavaskar record for the most runs by an Indian captain in a five-Test series. Gill now ranks second on the all-time list for most runs by a captain in a Test series, behind only Don Bradman’s 810.
His standout moment came at Edgbaston. He scored 269 in the first innings and followed it up with 161 in the second. His combined 430 runs in the match is the second-highest ever, behind Graham Gooch’s 456.
Ben Stokes: England’s All-Round Leader
Ben Stokes also shined in the same series. The ICC praised his balanced contributions with both bat and ball.“He scored 251 runs at an average of 50.20 and took 12 wickets at 26.33,” the ICC stated. “He delivered in high-pressure situations and led from the front. His long bowling spells often broke crucial partnerships and shifted momentum in England’s favour.”Stokes’ leadership helped England stay competitive throughout the closely fought series.
Wiaan Mulder’s Historic Test Debut as Captain
Wiaan Mulder made headlines with a record-breaking performance in his first Test as South Africa captain. He scored an unbeaten 367 against Zimbabwe, marking the highest individual score in South African Test history.
The ICC praised both his batting and bowling efforts. “Mulder smashed an unbeaten 367 in his maiden outing as South Africa’s Test skipper. He also chipped in with seven wickets at just 15.28, including a four-wicket haul in the first Test,” the ICC reported.
