Gill Praised for Calm Leadership in Manchester Test
Shubman Gill earned praise from former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif for his calm and composed demeanor during the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford. After facing criticism for being overly aggressive at Lord’s—where many felt he was imitating Virat Kohli’s on-field behavior—Gill shifted gears and embraced a more measured approach in Manchester.
Kaif noted that the young Indian skipper seemed focused and in control whenever the camera zoomed in on him, showing signs of maturity. Gill played a key role in India’s second-innings fightback, scoring a crucial 103 that helped the team draw the match and keep the series alive.
“Gill realized that he doesn’t need to imitate anyone. His calm nature helped him bat with control and confidence,” Kaif remarked on his YouTube channel.
Kaif Calls for Kuldeep Yadav’s Inclusion in Oval Test
In addition to praising Gill, Kaif also criticized the team’s decision to leave Kuldeep Yadav out of the Manchester Test. He emphasized the need for the left-arm wrist spinner in the must-win final match at The Oval.
“Not playing Kuldeep in Manchester was a big mistake. You need 20 wickets to win, and Kuldeep gives you that edge regardless of conditions,” Kaif said.
With India trailing 1-2 in the series, the upcoming fifth Test becomes a do-or-die situation. Kaif believes that including match-winning bowlers like Kuldeep is key to leveling the series. The final showdown at The Oval starts Thursday, and fans will be eager to see whether team India makes bold changes.
