Sehwag Praises Abhishek Sharma’s Knock vs Pakistan
Former India opener Virender Sehwag praised Abhishek Sharma for his match-winning innings of 74 off just 39 balls in India’s Super Four victory over Pakistan at the Asia Cup 2025. Chasing 172, Sharma set the tone with fearless intent from the first ball, exploiting loose deliveries and punishing any errors in line or length.
Sehwag highlighted Sharma’s ability to read field placements and capitalize on scoring opportunities. “He saw a short ball and pulled it because the fine leg was up. Even if he had been behind, it would have been a six. If the bowler bowls full, he hits straight. He won’t spare you if you don’t bowl at the right spot,” Sehwag explained.
Consistency and Strike Rate Near 200
The former swashbuckling opener was especially impressed with Sharma’s consistency, maintaining a strike rate close to 200 across multiple matches. “The biggest thing is that his strike rate is close to 200. You can maintain a strike rate of 200 in one, two, or five matches, but he has played a lot of matches. It’s slightly difficult to maintain it in so many games, but he is doing that extremely well,” Sehwag said.
Sharma’s fearless batting has forced opposition bowlers to rethink their strategies, underlining his growing value in the shortest format. His aggressive approach not only contributes to India’s wins but also strengthens the team’s dominance in the Asia Cup 2025.
