Rohit Sharma Excluded From All-Time Indian Batting Greats
Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has made waves by stating that India’s ODI captain, Rohit Sharma, does not belong in the list of all-time batting greats. Speaking on “The Great Indian Cricket Show,” Manjrekar named iconic players like Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Virat Kohli as the definitive legends in India’s cricketing history, while leaving out Rohit.
Despite his remarkable record, including three ODI double centuries and multiple World Cup milestones, Manjrekar believes that Test cricket holds more weight in assessing a player’s legacy. He also acknowledged Rohit’s contribution to India’s limited-overs cricket, highlighting his success in the 50-over format
Rohit Sharma’s Remarkable ODI World Cup Records
Although Manjrekar excluded Rohit from the all-time batting greats list, he did recognize the India captain’s exceptional performances in the ODI format, particularly in World Cups. Rohit has accumulated 1,575 runs in 28 World Cup matches, including a record five centuries in the 2019 edition. His best score in a World Cup match is 140, and he has maintained a stunning average of 60.57 across these games.
In the 2023 World Cup, Rohit’s consistency helped India advance, and his attacking intent was visible with a strike rate of over 125, amassing 597 runs in 11 matches. Manjrekar praised Rohit’s selflessness during India’s 2023 World Cup campaign, noting that he put the team’s needs above personal accolades.
Rohit’s ODI career, with 11,168 runs in 273 matches, includes a record 32 centuries and 58 fifties. He is also the only player to have scored three double centuries in ODIs.
