Rishabh Pant Bats With Fractured Foot, Scores 54 Runs
Rishabh Pant stunned cricket fans on Day 2 of the Manchester Test as he stepped out to bat with a fractured foot. He had been retired hurt the previous day after injuring himself while attempting a reverse sweep. Most believed his participation in the match was over. However, he returned to the field in pain and scored a vital 54 off 75 balls, including three boundaries and two sixes.
Shardul Thakur, who was dismissed just before Pant came to bat, praised his teammate’s bravery. Thakur explained that the team and medical staff had been working behind the scenes to get Pant fit enough to bat. His presence on the field, despite severe discomfort, gave India a much-needed boost, helping the team post 358 runs in the first innings.
Shardul Recalls Pant’s Pain and Passion
According to Shardul, the decision to let Pant bat was taken only after checking if he could even walk properly. Earlier in the morning, Pant did not arrive at the ground with the rest of the team. Thakur revealed that he had to touch Pant’s foot to check his mobility before batting.
Thakur added that the pain-bearing capacity Pant showed was nothing short of incredible. Comparing it to moments in cricket history—like when South Africa’s Graeme Smith batted with a fractured hand—Shardul stated that Pant’s determination was inspiring.
Confirming the seriousness of the injury, Shardul also mentioned that the news of the fracture was already out. Pant’s performance, despite the odds, now stands as a memorable chapter in Indian cricket, showcasing his commitment and courage in a high-stakes Test match.
