Ravindra Jadeja Named India Vice-Captain For Tests
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named 36-year-old all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja as India’s vice-captain for the upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies. The selection comes as a surprise with KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah being overlooked. Jadeja, currently ranked the top ICC Test all-rounder, recently impressed with his batting in the five-match series against England.
Jadeja has featured in 86 Tests for India, scoring 3,886 runs and taking 330 wickets. Although he has never captained India before, he has expressed interest in leading the national team in the past. His appointment fills the vacancy left by Rishabh Pant, who was vice-captain against England but is unavailable due to a foot injury sustained in Manchester.
Full India Squad For West Indies Tests
India’s full-strength squad for the two-match series includes Shubman Gill (captain), Ravindra Jadeja (vice-captain), KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, Narayan Jagadeesan, Devdutt Padikkal, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, and B Sai Sudharsan. Notably, Karun Nair, Shardul Thakur, Arshdeep Singh, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Akash Deep, and Anshul Kamboj have been left out of the squad.
The series begins on October 2 at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, with the second Test scheduled at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium from October 10 to 14. India aims to maintain momentum in their World Test Championship campaign with a balanced squad featuring Jadeja’s all-round prowess.
