Prasidh Krishna’s 4-Wicket Burst Sparks England Collapse
Prasidh Krishna made a strong comeback in the IND vs ENG 5th Test at The Oval, grabbing 4 wickets for 62 runs to trigger a major batting collapse. After struggling in the first two Tests at Leeds and Birmingham, Krishna returned with purpose and partnered with Mohammed Siraj (4/83) to reduce England from 142/2 to 215/7.
Krishna had a rough start to the series. He picked up only six wickets and conceded 331 runs across four innings. That poor performance led to him missing the Lord’s and Manchester Tests. The break, however, gave him time to reflect and refine his bowling.
“Well, I think I have been picked here because I can do what the job that the team asked me to do. I am definitely being backed by the dressing room, and my playing the next two games also enabled me to go back to the drawing board and do what I have been doing in a better way,” Krishna said during the post-day presser.
“If I can bowl the lengths better than what I did previously, if every part of my skill increases by five or ten per cent when I am not playing, I am happy to do that. Every time I am here on the field, I am here to do the job for the team. If I am asked to do a certain thing, but I get criticised from outside for it, it is okay. Criticism and praise are dependent on performance, and for me in life, it is not about the performance, but rather the process you follow,” he added.
India Recovers After Batting Setback
India batted first and posted 224 runs. Karun Nair scored 57 off 109 balls, and Washington Sundar added 26. Their 50-plus stand for the seventh wicket was the only major resistance. England’s Gus Atkinson shone with the ball, taking 5 wickets for 33 runs. Josh Tongue added 3/57.
England got off to a flying start. Zak Crawley smashed 64 from 57 balls, while Ben Duckett made 43 off 38. Together, they built a 92-run partnership. But once both fell with the score at 129, Krishna and Siraj took over. They removed key batters and dismantled England’s middle order. Harry Brook tried to fight back with 53 runs, but couldn’t prevent the collapse. England managed just 247, gaining a narrow 23-run lead.
Jaiswal Guides India to Safety
India began their second innings steadily. Yashasvi Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 51, while night-watchman Akash Deep stood firm on 4. India reached 75/2 at stumps, leading by 52 runs.
With Krishna’s impactful bowling and Jaiswal’s calm batting, Day 3 at The Oval promises another thrilling contest in this final Test.
