Vaughan Names Siraj Gill as Series Best
The high-profile India vs England Test series 2025 ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw after India’s narrow six-run win in the final Test at The Oval on August 4. Former England captain Michael Vaughan has now shared his picks for the top batter and bowler of the series — naming Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj.
Stellar Series from Both Sides
India and England played out five entertaining Tests filled with standout performances. While batting-friendly pitches dominated the series, bowlers still made a strong impact. Siraj emerged as the highest wicket-taker with 23 wickets, while Gill scored 754 runs in 10 innings, showcasing his consistency and class.
Bowlers Shine Despite Flat Tracks
Despite the conditions favoring batters, India’s bowlers left their mark. Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah both took two five-wicket hauls. Debutant Akash Deep was impressive, grabbing 10 wickets in his first Test in England — the best figures by an Indian on English soil. Prasidh Krishna also contributed with two four-wicket hauls in the final Test.
England had strong performers too. Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, and Josh Tongue all stood out. Stokes, Atkinson, and Tongue took a fifer each. Archer, making his Test return after February 2021, claimed nine wickets in just three innings.
Vaughan’s Take on the Series
Speaking on the Stick to Cricket podcast, Vaughan called India a “young side” that deserved the draw. He rated Jofra Archer’s return as a “nine out of ten” and praised Chris Woakes’ one-handed batting in the final Test as “heroic.”
When asked if England threw the series away or if India earned the draw, Vaughan responded:“India deserved the draw over the course of five games, but England threw it away on that last morning.”
He was also asked whether England would have won had Ben Stokes played the final Test. Vaughan replied without hesitation:“Absolutely.”
Stokes had missed the deciding Test due to injury, after winning Player of the Match awards in both the third and fourth Tests.
