Kuldeep Yadav on Asia Cup Win as BCCI Snubs ACC Chief
India’s Asia Cup 2025 campaign ended with both a spectacular triumph on the field and a storm off it. Following a thrilling final against Pakistan in Dubai, left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav shared his thoughts on the hard-fought victory, calling it a moment of immense pride.
“Finals are meant to test you, proud of how we stood tall last night,” Kuldeep posted on X, summing up the grit and determination that defined India’s performance in the title clash.
Spin Attack Turns the Final in India’s Favour
The final witnessed a masterclass in spin bowling as India’s trio — Axar Patel (2-26), Varun Chakravarthy (2-30), and Kuldeep Yadav (4-30) — completely dismantled Pakistan’s batting unit on a sluggish Dubai pitch. The three combined for eight wickets, restricting the Men in Green to a modest total of 146.
Varun provided the crucial breakthrough by ending an 84-run opening stand with the dismissal of Sahibzada Farhan (57 off 38). Axar kept the pressure on through the middle overs, and Kuldeep delivered the decisive blows by removing Pakistan’s power-hitters. He later revealed that the bowling group had discussed key lengths before the match to exploit the opposition’s weaknesses.
India’s chase was anchored by Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 69, supported by vital cameos from Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube, guiding the team to a five-wicket win and sealing their unbeaten run in the tournament.
Kuldeep Leads the Wicket Charts in a Dominant Campaign
Kuldeep’s performance capped off an exceptional tournament. He finished as the leading wicket-taker with 17 wickets at 9.29, while Varun claimed seven at 20.42. India’s dominance was further highlighted by their rare feat of defeating Pakistan three weekends in a row during the competition.
Presentation Drama: BCCI Refuses Trophy from ACC Chairman
The celebrations took an unexpected turn during the presentation ceremony. The Indian team declined to accept the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who also holds the post of Pakistan’s interior minister.
Host presenter Simon Doull announced the development live:
“I have been informed by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) that the Indian cricket team will not be collecting their awards tonight. So that does conclude the post-match presentation.”
Later, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the reason behind the decision, telling ANI:
“We have decided not to take the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from the ACC chairman, who happens to be one of the main leaders of Pakistan. So we decided not to take it from him. But that does not mean that the gentleman will take away the trophy with him, along with the medals. So it is very unfortunate and unsportsmanlike, and we hope that the trophy and the medals will be returned to India as soon as possible.”
