Kaif Wants Ishan Kishan Back at Mumbai Indians
Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif has suggested that Ishan Kishan should return to Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2026. Speaking on a cricket panel, Kaif explained that Kishan performs better at Wankhede Stadium and fits naturally into MI’s opening slot. He pointed out that Kishan’s stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025 saw him batting at number three, which didn’t suit his aggressive style. Kaif believes Kishan’s return to MI would benefit both the player and the franchise.
Kishan was part of Mumbai Indians from 2018 to 2024 before being picked by SRH for ₹11.25 crore in the 2025 mega auction.
MI Reportedly Exploring Trade Deal
Reports suggest that Mumbai Indians are actively pursuing a trade deal with Sunrisers Hyderabad to bring Kishan back. The franchise, now led by Hardik Pandya, is looking to rebuild its core ahead of the IPL 2026 mini auction. Kishan’s familiarity with MI’s setup and his chemistry with Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav make him an ideal candidate for a comeback. His explosive batting at the top could restore MI’s aggressive starts, which were missing last season.
The trade talks are expected to intensify before the retention deadline on November 15.
Kishan’s Mixed Run at SRH
Ishan Kishan started his SRH journey with a century against Rajasthan Royals but ended the season with a modest 354 runs. Batting at number three behind Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head limited his impact. Kaif highlighted that Kishan thrives when opening the innings, especially on flat tracks like Wankhede. His strike rate and confidence dip when pushed down the order, making MI a better fit for his natural game.
If the trade goes through, Kishan could be one of the most impactful returnees of IPL 2026.
