Jasprit Bumrah Shuts Critics After Lord's 5-Wicket Haul
Jasprit Bumrah delivered a powerful statement both with the ball and with his words after taking a five-wicket haul during the Lord’s Test against England. On Day 2, Bumrah produced a fiery spell to dismantle England’s batting order and earned a spot on the prestigious Lord’s Honours Board. But it wasn’t just his bowling that made headlines—his bold remarks in the post-day press conference caught everyone’s attention.
The Indian pacer, currently the No. 1 Test bowler in the world, addressed ongoing discussions about his limited appearances in the current Test series and the constant media scrutiny. He said that in today’s era of views and subscribers, people are more focused on creating viral content than appreciating consistent performances.
“There are so many cameras now. Even when we practice, they’re everywhere. This is the era of views and sensationalism. I can’t control that,” Bumrah said after stumps.
‘Even Sachin was judged’: Bumrah stands tall under pressure
Bumrah also reflected on the judgment every player faces while representing India. Referring to cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, he highlighted how even after 200 Tests, the Master Blaster was not spared from criticism.
“Log paise kama rahe hai mere through, that’s fine. They might even bless me for giving them viewership,” he said with a smile. “But this is the nature of the game. Every cricketer will be judged—whether it’s me or someone else. Sachin sir was judged even after all he achieved. So who are we?”
Bumrah’s fifer included the prized wickets of Ben Stokes, Joe Root, and Harry Brook. He wrapped up the innings by removing Jofra Archer and having Chris Woakes caught behind. With this, he became the leading wicket-taker among Asian bowlers in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) countries.
Match situation after Day 2
At the end of Day 2, India stood at 145 for 3, trailing by 242 runs. KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 53, while Rishabh Pant held firm at 19 despite a finger injury sustained on Day 1. England had earlier posted 387, with Joe Root notching his 37th Test century.
As the Test match hangs in the balance, Bumrah’s performance and his words have become the talking point of the day.
