Jasprit Bumrah Declares Fitness for West Indies Test Series
India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has informed the BCCI that he is fit and available for selection in the upcoming two-match Test series against West Indies, beginning October 2 in Ahmedabad. At present, Bumrah is competing in the Asia Cup 2025 in UAE, where his workload has been closely observed due to his injury record.
Earlier this year, Bumrah’s back injury forced him to withdraw midway through the Border-Gavaskar Trophy decider. Since then, the Indian management has restricted his appearances, allowing him to feature in only three of five Tests during the England tour.
Concerns had also surfaced over his participation in the T20 Asia Cup, since the final on September 28 leaves little turnaround time before India’s red-ball duties resume.
No Rest for Bumrah During Asia Cup Super Fours
India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate clarified that Bumrah will not be rested for the Asia Cup 2025 Super Fours game against Bangladesh.
“It is unlikely that Bumrah will be rested. He is set to play the West Indies Tests. We’ve got important matches coming up, and it’s good for him to keep playing and get more match time,” Doeschate told reporters.
Bumrah has already featured in three of India’s four matches in the competition. He, along with Varun Chakaravarthy, sat out the final group match against Oman after India had sealed qualification.
Preparation Ahead of West Indies Tests
Doeschate also explained that Bumrah’s overs are being carefully balanced to prepare him for the Test series.
“Also bearing in mind we have a Test match starting on Thursday. So, it’s actually quite good preparation in terms of workload management. He’s probably going to bowl a few overs in all the games and bowl in the region of 25-26 overs with the training and the preparation going into the game, which is a fairly good number the week before a Test,” Doeschate said.
This confirms Bumrah’s presence for the Asia Cup knockout matches before he switches formats for the West Indies Tests in October.
