India Introduces New Fielding Drill in Asia Cup 2025 (1)
The Indian cricket team has introduced new training methods during the Asia Cup 2025 in Dubai to improve both fielding sharpness and overall fitness. Under the guidance of fielding coach T Dilip and strength and conditioning coach Adrian Le Roux, players have been put through innovative drills aimed at giving them a competitive edge in the tournament.
New Fielding Drill Enhances Anticipation and Reflexes
The new exercise focuses on helping players anticipate angles and cut gaps effectively. According to a Times of India report, the drill requires players to catch fresh balls while guarding a safety net the size of a goalpost. This unusual practice, inspired by goalkeeper training, assigns each fielder a “goal” to protect.
The drill has already produced eye-catching moments. Hardik Pandya wowed the squad with several spectacular catches, displaying his balance and athleticism. Vice-captain Shubman Gill, who has been in great form, impressed by taking four challenging catches. His consistency encouraged Rinku Singh, who initially struggled but eventually made excellent progress and earned a medal for his efforts.
This creative method has not only improved catching skills but has also injected energy and enjoyment into the training sessions. The focus on anticipation and quick reflexes could prove vital in close Asia Cup encounters.
Bronco Test Adds a Fitness Dimension
Alongside the fielding innovations, the team has also implemented the Bronco Test, a well-known fitness evaluation designed to improve aerobic capacity. Created by strength and conditioning coach Adrian Le Roux, the test involves running 240 meters in repeated 60-meter sprints performed in a set pattern.
Le Roux highlighted the importance of this drill, stating: “This drill serves two purposes: as a training mechanism and a measurement tool, providing a clear picture of the players’ aerobic fitness.”
He further added, “Being physically prepared allows players to extend their careers while minimising injury risks.”
India Gears Up for Pakistan Clash
These new methods come at a crucial time as India prepares to face arch-rivals Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday. With the combination of creative fielding drills and strict fitness assessments, the Indian team is leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of success at the Asia Cup 2025.
