India Await Pratika Rawal Fitness Update
India captain Harmanpreet Kaur has confirmed that Pratika Rawal’s injury is under close watch by the medical team. The young opener injured her ankle while fielding against Bangladesh, just days before the India vs Australia Women’s World Cup semifinal.
Rawal twisted her right ankle near deep midwicket on the last ball of the 21st over at DY Patil Stadium. Her foot got stuck on the damp ground, and she left the field in visible discomfort. Persistent rain later forced the match to be abandoned.
Harmanpreet Kaur expressed hope that the batter would recover in time for the crucial knockout clash.
“Pratika is being monitored by the medical team and hopefully they’ll (medical team) get back soon. It’s a very important game for us (semifinal), we have played very good cricket in the league matches and everyone has contributed which we’ll carry forward,” said Harmanpreet.
India will meet defending champions Australia in the semifinal on Thursday. “Whatever we thought we have achieved and hopefully Pratika will also be fine for the next game,” the skipper added.
Amanjot Opens in Rawal’s Absence, But India Hopes for Return
On Sunday, Amanjot Kaur opened the innings with Smriti Mandhana as Pratika was rested. The game eventually ended in a washout. Rawal has formed a reliable opening pair with Mandhana, making her recovery crucial for India’s semifinal plans.
The BCCI also shared an injury update after the match. “Team India all-rounder Pratika Rawal sustained an injury to her knee and ankle while fielding in the 1st innings against Bangladesh. The BCCI Medical Team is closely monitoring her progress,” the BCCI wrote on X.
Harmanpreet Focuses on Momentum Before Knockout
Harmanpreet praised the team’s consistent league-stage performances and urged her players to stay relaxed and positive for the big clash.
“It’s a very important game for us. I personally feel we’ve played really good cricket in the league matches. Now the next game is very crucial. Everyone has contributed whenever the team needed, and that’s something we’ll carry forward. We’ve always spoken about enjoying ourselves while playing, and I think that’s the key for us – to go out there and enjoy the semis,” said Harmanpreet.
India’s top order has delivered strong starts this tournament. With Pratika Rawal’s fitness update bringing hope, India will look to continue its momentum against Australia in the Women’s World Cup semifinal.
