Hardik Pandya Injury Puts Australia Tour 2025 in Doubt
Team India’s star all-rounder Hardik Pandya is unlikely to feature in the Australia tour 2025 after sustaining a left quadriceps injury in the Asia Cup Super 4s clash against Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Stadium. As per a Dainik Jagran report, the Mumbai Indians captain has been advised to rest for four weeks, which makes his participation in the three ODIs and five T20Is in Australia highly doubtful.
The injury forced Hardik out of the Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan, where Rinku Singh stepped into the playing XI. With the series opener slated for October 19 at Optus Stadium, Perth, selectors may have to plan the campaign without one of their most experienced players.
Uncertainty Ahead of Rohit and Kohli’s Comeback
Even in the best-case scenario, Hardik is unlikely to be fit for the ODI leg of the tour, which could see the much-anticipated return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli following their retirements from Test cricket. The T20I series begins on October 29 at Manuka Oval, Hobart, but his availability for that leg will depend on the pace of his recovery.
The BCCI medical staff is expected to provide a detailed assessment soon, offering clarity on his rehabilitation plan. During commentary for the Asia Cup final, former India head coach Ravi Shastri stated, “Hardik has a quadriceps (front thigh muscle) injury.”
Injury Cut Short His Super 4s Outing
Pandya’s bowling spell against Sri Lanka lasted just one over before he left the field in visible discomfort. He did not return to action for the remainder of the match and subsequently sat out the title clash against Pakistan.
Asia Cup 2025: Hardik’s Contribution
The 31-year-old formed a new-ball pairing with Jasprit Bumrah throughout the tournament. In six appearances, he claimed four wickets and scored 48 runs, with a top score of 38 versus Bangladesh in the Super 4s.
Despite his absence in the final, Tilak Varma produced a match-winning 69 off 53 balls* to seal victory for India, chasing down 147 with five wickets and two balls remaining. Pakistan briefly held the upper hand by reducing India to 20/3 with Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Shubman Gill dismissed early. However, key partnerships involving Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, and Rinku Singh steered India to a record ninth Asia Cup crown.
Hardik Pandya’s latest setback comes at a crucial juncture for India, and his recovery timeline will determine if he can feature in any part of the Australia tour 2025.
