Harbhajan Singh Questions Mohammed Siraj’s Asia Cup Exclusion
Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has expressed shock over Mohammed Siraj’s exclusion from India’s 15-member Asia Cup 2025 squad. The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee announced the squad on August 19, sparking debate over several surprising omissions.
The veteran spinner feels Siraj’s presence would have boosted India’s bowling attack.
Siraj’s Recent Performances in International and IPL Cricket
Siraj played a crucial role in India’s 2-2 draw during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England. His control and consistency made him the standout pacer in that series.
In T20Is, Siraj has taken 14 wickets in 16 matches at an economy rate of 7.79. He also impressed in IPL 2025 with the Gujarat Titans, securing 16 wickets in 15 games and bowling 151 dot balls.
Harbhajan Singh’s Reaction
“I feel that Mohammed Siraj’s name should have been in the team. Siraj bowled very well in the recent series (against England). If he had been taken, the team would have looked even stronger. The bowling unit would have seemed stronger. I feel that the X-factor that Siraj brings might be somewhat missed,” Harbhajan said on his YouTube channel.
India’s Bowling Options Without Siraj
Pitches in the UAE are expected to favour spinners, reducing the pacers’ role in the tournament. India’s pace attack already includes Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya as a backup option. Siraj might have been rested after a demanding England series.
Siraj last represented India on the Sri Lanka tour in July 2024. Meanwhile, Prasidh Krishna, the Purple Cap winner in IPL 2025 with 25 wickets, features among the reserves. Harshit Rana earned a spot in the main squad.
