Gill-Crawley Sledging Sparks Tension Before 4th Test
The third Test between India and England at Lord’s wasn’t just about thrilling cricket. It also had its share of heated drama. One of the biggest flashpoints came on Day 3 when India captain Shubman Gill and England opener Zak Crawley clashed in a tense verbal exchange.
With just minutes left before Stumps, Crawley appeared to deliberately slow down the game, which angered Gill. India wanted to get in two more overs under the fading light. When Crawley pulled away from his stance multiple times and later called for the physio after a glove hit, it triggered a strong reaction from the Indian skipper. Gill was heard on the stump mic shouting an expletive, and the entire Indian side clapped sarcastically when Crawley asked for treatment.
Siraj Hints at More Verbal Battles Ahead
India pacer Mohammed Siraj later addressed the sledging incident ahead of the 4th Test in Manchester. When asked about the exchange, he smiled and said there was no plan behind such behavior. “It happens in the moment. You try to get into the batter’s head. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. But it’s fun for a fast bowler,” he said.
Siraj also hinted that similar sledging could continue in the upcoming match depending on the game situation. “Maybe. A little bit of chatter can shake things up,” he added.
With the series finely poised and emotions running high, the 4th Test at Old Trafford promises to be an intense contest — not just with the bat and ball, but also with words.
