Gambhir Fires Up Team As Bumrah Gears Up For Lord's Test
After India’s dominating 336-run win in Birmingham, the team has now arrived at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground for the third Test against England. With only three days between matches, India opted for a light training session on Tuesday, which was declared optional. This meant that key players like Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Yashasvi Jaiswal decided to rest.
Despite the absence of some big names, the session drew attention for a different reason. Head coach Gautam Gambhir was seen in a fiery huddle with his coaching staff, showing visible intensity as he examined the lush green pitch. The green top at Lord’s suggests that the match, starting July 10, could be heavily influenced by seam bowlers.
Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak shared his thoughts with the media, saying, “The pitch is very green. We’ll know more once the grass is trimmed tomorrow. Mindset will be key for the batters.” He also expressed confidence in India’s batting unit, especially against the expected return of England pacer Jofra Archer. “Indian batters are scoring at almost four runs per over without trying too hard,” he added.
Bumrah’s Return Spells Trouble for England
One of the biggest boosts for India ahead of the Lord’s Test is the return of Jasprit Bumrah. Rested for the Edgbaston Test, Bumrah returned to the nets and bowled with full intensity for 45 minutes before having a strategic chat with Gambhir. He later joined the batters for practice, signaling his full readiness for the big match.
Bumrah’s record in England is impressive—42 wickets at an average of 26.47, including three five-wicket hauls. One of those came in the series opener at Leeds. His return, alongside pacers Siraj and Akash Deep, could make life difficult for the English batters on a bowler-friendly Lord’s track. Siraj and Akash picked 16 out of 20 wickets in the previous game, including six with the new ball.
With the series tied 1-1, the upcoming third Test promises to be a high-stakes battle. While the absence of some key players at practice raised eyebrows, India seems focused and charged under Gambhir’s watchful eyes and Bumrah’s fiery return.
