Nitish Rana & Digvesh Rathi Penalised for On-Field Fight
The Delhi Premier League 2025 Eliminator between West Delhi Lions and South Delhi Superstarz turned heated at Arun Jaitley Stadium. Nitish Rana, Digvesh Rathi, and Krish Yadav were fined for breaching the code of conduct. The incident has raised major concerns about player discipline in the Delhi Premier League 2025.
South Delhi Superstarz spinner Digvesh Rathi faced an 80% match fee fine for “conduct contrary to the spirit of the game” under Article 2.2. West Delhi Lions skipper Nitish Rana was fined 50% of his match fees under Article 2.6 (Level 1) for “using a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting during a match.”
The clash began when Rathi pulled away before bowling. Rana repeated the act on the next delivery. After being hit for a six, Rathi reacted with unsavoury words. Rana responded with finger-pointing as both players nearly came to blows. Rathi was seen hurling abuse, but Rana had the final say with an unbeaten 134 off 55 balls. His knock powered West Delhi Lions to chase down 202 and progress to Qualifier 2 against East Delhi Riders.
Aman Bharti, Sumit Mathur, and Krish Yadav Also Punished
The organisers also sanctioned Aman Bharti, Sumit Mathur, and Krish Yadav for another altercation. Krish Yadav returned to the pitch after dismissal to argue with Sumit Mathur, following a stare from Aman Bharti.
“Aman Bharti has been fined 30 per cent of the match fees for a Code of Conduct breach under Article 2.3 (Level 1) for the use of audible obscenity during a Match,” the organisers said in an official statement.
Sumit Mathur was fined 50% under Article 2.5 (Level 1) after the heated exchange.
“Krish Yadav has been fined 100% of the match fees for a Code of Conduct breach under Article 2.3 (Level 2) for using audible obscenity during a Match following an abuse from the opposing team player and pointing the bat towards the player,” the statement added.
The fines underline the strict disciplinary measures in place for the Delhi Premier League 2025.
