Karun Nair Set to Miss Duleep Trophy 2025
Under Shubman Gill captaincy, Team India won the historic fifth Test against England by six runs. Mohammed Siraj’s remarkable nine-wicket haul helped India draw the five-match series 2-2. Despite the memorable win, India faced significant injury setbacks during the series.
The biggest blow was Rishabh Pant toe fracture, ruling him out of the final Test. Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh, and Akash Deep also suffered injuries. However, one injury remained hidden during the series—Karun Nair finger fracture.
Karun Nair Set to Miss Duleep Trophy 2025
The middle-order batter suffered a minor fracture on his finger during the second innings of the fifth Test. A report by The Times of India confirmed that Nair was hit by a rising delivery, leading to the injury. As a result, Nair will miss the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2025 for the Central Zone.
The Duleep Trophy will kick off on August 28, with the North Zone facing the East Zone. Nair, who returned to the Indian squad after an eight-year hiatus, had a mixed outing in England, scoring only 205 runs across four matches, including one half-century.
In July, Nair returned to Karnataka after a three-year gap, gearing up for the domestic season. His stellar performance in Vidarbha’s title-winning 2024-25 season, where he scored 863 runs at an average of 53, earned him a spot back in the Indian Test squad.
A Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) official said, “It’s tough to see him go as he was a big part of our team in the last couple of seasons. But it’s his decision and we respect that and NOC was given. Hopefully, he will do well in the future seasons.”
Nair’s successful stint with Vidarbha played a crucial role in his comeback to the Indian Test squad, showcasing his resilience and determination.
