Uthappa’s Key Advice to Kuldeep Yadav for More Test Appearances
Former India batter Robin Uthappa has sent a clear message to Kuldeep Yadav. He urged the left-arm spinner to improve his batting if he wants a regular place in India’s Test lineup. Kuldeep has featured in just 13 Tests since his debut in 2017. He last played red-ball cricket in 2024 against New Zealand.
Uthappa Highlights Ashwin’s All-Round Value
India didn’t select Kuldeep for any of the five Tests in the recent series against England. Despite performing well in white-ball formats, he remained on the sidelines. The team instead backed Washington Sundar, whose century and half-century helped India draw the series 2-2.
Uthappa believes Kuldeep must adapt to fit into the team’s current strategy.
“Put Kuldeep in the XI and ensure the batting remains strong, so fans don’t question the team management or captain,” Uthappa said on his YouTube channel.
He emphasized the need for Kuldeep to work on his batting. “With all due respect to his bowling skills, he must put in serious effort to improve with the bat,” Uthappa added.
He cited Ravichandran Ashwin as a great example. “Ashwin has scored 5-6 Test hundreds. If a lower-order batter can contribute like that, he’ll always be valuable in overseas conditions,” he explained.
Kuldeep must evolve to meet the demands of modern Test cricket. Strengthening his batting could be the key to unlocking more consistent opportunities.
