Pant and Gambhir laugh off rift rumours at Lord’s
India’s third Test against England at Lord’s witnessed a moment that silenced ongoing speculation. Rishabh Pant and head coach Gautam Gambhir were seen sharing a cheerful moment inside the dressing room, effectively putting an end to rumours of a rift between the two.
The buzz around a possible fallout began after the Headingley Test when Gambhir appeared visibly upset with a media question about Pant’s twin centuries. Gambhir had pointed out that other players also performed well and deserved equal recognition. This led fans to assume a strain between the coach and India’s vice-captain.
However, on Day 2 of the Lord’s Test, the cameras caught Pant and Gambhir sharing a light-hearted conversation and laughing heartily just before Pant went out to bat. The clip quickly went viral and has since been widely shared by cricket fans, putting rest to the controversy.
Pant shows courage despite injury scare
Rishabh Pant took the field at No. 5 despite carrying an injury from Day 1. While keeping during England’s innings, he injured his left index finger while collecting a delivery from Jasprit Bumrah. The pain forced him to leave the field, and Dhruv Jurel stepped in to take over the wicketkeeping duties.
Before Day 2 began, the BCCI released an official update stating that Pant was still under observation and would not take the field immediately. However, just before the end of the England innings, Pant was seen hitting in the nets under the supervision of the physio and team support staff, indicating signs of recovery.
India ended Day 2 at 145 for 3, with KL Rahul and Pant at the crease. They are still trailing by 242 runs after England posted 387 in the first innings, thanks to a century from Joe Root and a five-wicket haul by Jasprit Bumrah.
