Jasprit Bumrah’s calm reaction after Lord’s five-for
Jasprit Bumrah once again proved why he is India’s top pace bowler, taking five wickets against England on Day 2 of the third Test at Lord’s. His spell of 5 for 74 helped bowl England out for 387. However, fans were left surprised by his muted reaction after getting the final wicket of Jofra Archer.
Instead of celebrating with his usual energy, Bumrah quietly walked back to his mark. His calm response made many wonder whether he was disappointed with the game situation or frustrated by England’s lower-order partnership. But Bumrah cleared all doubts in the post-match press conference, explaining that he was simply tired.
“I bowled for a long time. I was just tired. I’m not 21 anymore that I’ll jump around,” Bumrah said with a smile. He added that he was happy with his performance but preferred staying focused on the job rather than celebrating. It was his 15th five-wicket haul in Tests, the most by an Indian bowler in overseas matches, beating Kapil Dev’s record. It was also Bumrah’s first time getting on the Lord’s honours board.
Bumrah’s Spell Turns the Match
Bumrah’s brilliant morning spell changed the momentum of the match. England were well-placed at 251 for 4, but Bumrah removed key players Ben Stokes, Joe Root, and Chris Woakes quickly. This collapse saw England lose 3 wickets for just 20 runs. However, a strong 84-run stand by Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse stretched the total close to 400.
Even though Bumrah didn’t celebrate much, his deliveries were sharp, with great seam movement and pace. His dismissal of Joe Root was one of the highlights, as the ball swung in sharply and knocked out the middle stump. It was the 11th time Bumrah had dismissed Root in Test cricket.
India’s Batters Show Fight on Day 2
India ended the second day at 145 for 3. KL Rahul played a patient knock and stayed unbeaten on 53. He was well supported by Rishabh Pant, who came in despite a finger injury and remained not out on 19. Yashasvi Jaiswal, however, was dismissed early by Jofra Archer, who returned to Test cricket after more than four years.
Karun Nair scored a fluent 40 before being dismissed by a stunning one-handed catch from Joe Root at slip. Shubman Gill, who had scored two centuries in the previous Test, could only manage 16 this time.
As Day 3 approaches, India still trails England by 242 runs. With Bumrah leading the bowling attack and Rahul settled at the crease, India will look to build a strong reply and take control of the Test match.
