Shreyas Iyer Starts Training After Spleen Injury
Team India received a boost as the latest Shreyas Iyer injury update confirmed his return to training. Iyer shared an Instagram story on Tuesday and informed fans that his rehab has started again.
Iyer injured himself during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney on October 25. He landed awkwardly while attempting a catch and walked off the field immediately. Doctors later shifted him to the ICU for further checks. The BCCI stated that he suffered a blunt-force abdominal injury that caused a spleen laceration and internal bleeding.
Doctors performed a minor procedure to stop the bleeding. Iyer recovered well and returned home in November. Since then, Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala has supervised his treatment and rehabilitation.
Iyer Out of the South Africa ODI Series
Even with steady progress, Iyer will not play in the India vs South Africa ODI series. The first match begins on November 30 in Ranchi. The selectors decided not to rush his comeback.
KL Rahul will lead the ODI team. Shubman Gill remains unavailable after a neck injury during the first Test in Kolkata. He is currently undergoing tests in Mumbai.
Senior Players Return for the Upcoming ODIs
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will rejoin the squad after missing the Australia series. Ruturaj Gaikwad also returns following a brilliant India A campaign. He scored 210 runs in three matches at an average of 105.
India will host South Africa in a three-match ODI series. Ranchi will stage the opener on November 30. Raipur will host the second ODI on December 3, and Vizag will stage the final match on December 6.
