South Africa Tighten Grip With 508 Lead
South Africa tightened their grip on the India vs South Africa Test in Guwahati, extending their advantage to 508 runs after controlling the entire second session. The visitors added 113 runs while losing only one wicket, placing India in deep trouble at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium.
Zorzi and Mulder Keep South Africa Firmly Ahead
The Proteas resumed the second session at 107/3, with Tristan de Zorzi and Tony Stubbs adopting a cautious approach against Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar. Their patience paid off as the innings settled quickly.
The session’s first boundary arrived when de Zorzi produced a reverse-sweep against Sundar in the 44th over. Kuldeep maintained steady pressure, and Jadeja replaced Sundar with disciplined bowling from the opposite end.
Stubbs survived a near dismissal when Kuldeep completely beat him in the 50th over. Tristan later freed his arms by sweeping Yadav for four in the 52nd over. India reviewed an LBW shout in the 54th over, but replays ruled it out as the ball missed the leg stump.
Jadeja finally found success in the 59th over. He removed de Zorzi for 48, and the on-field call stood with replays confirming “three reds”. South Africa advanced to 178/4.
Stubbs Reaches Fifty as Proteas Dominate the Session
Wiaan Mulder joined Stubbs and began confidently, striking a boundary off Kuldeep almost immediately. The partnership looked composed, taking South Africa past 200 in the 66th over. Stubbs reached his fifty in 129 balls and continued to anchor the innings with calm assurance.
The pair negotiated India’s spin threat effectively, enabling South Africa to post 113 runs in the session while losing only one wicket.
India’s Early Breakthroughs Fade as Proteas Regain Control
Earlier in the morning, South Africa resumed at 26/0. Jadeja broke the opening stand by removing Ryan Rickelton for 35. The spinner struck again by bowling Aiden Markram for a patient 29 after lunch.
Washington Sundar dismissed Temba Bavuma for three, pushing South Africa to 77/3. The pressure eased when de Zorzi launched Sundar for a powerful 102-metre six, shifting momentum in South Africa’s favour and taking them past 100.
Jansen’s Six-For Leaves India Battling From Behind
India had already fallen behind after Marco Jansen’s outstanding six-wicket burst restricted them to 201 in reply to the Proteas’ 489. South Africa resumed Day 4 at 22/0 and continued to assert complete control.
With their lead now at 508, the visitors hold a commanding position, leaving India with an extremely difficult chase ahead.
