Rain May Impact India vs Australia Semifinal 2025
India will look to secure a spot in the Women’s World Cup 2025 final after eight long years when they meet Australia at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on Thursday. Interestingly, it was against Australia that India scripted their historic semifinal win in 2017, powered by Harmanpreet Kaur’s unforgettable knock at Derby. The team’s only other final appearance came in 2005, where they lost to the same opposition at Centurion.
Australia were dominant in the group stage, remaining unbeaten with six victories and one no result to become the first team to qualify for the semifinals. India, on the other hand, claimed the final spot with seven points from seven matches, winning three and losing three, including one against the Alyssa Healy-led side earlier this month.
Now, as India eye redemption and a home final berth, weather conditions in Navi Mumbai could play a decisive role.
Navi Mumbai Weather Report for the Semifinal
Persistent rainfall has disrupted several fixtures in this year’s ICC Women’s World Cup, with 10 matches affected and six ending without a result. The Navi Mumbai region has witnessed heavy rains all week, sparking fears of yet another washout.
AccuWeather has issued a yellow alert for Thursday morning, though some improvement is expected later in the day. Forecasts suggest a 25% chance of rain in the afternoon with “sun through high clouds,” while by evening, the likelihood decreases to 15%, with partly cloudy skies expected.
What Happens If the Semifinal Gets Washed Out?
Unlike league-stage fixtures, the Women’s World Cup 2025 semifinal includes a reserve day to ensure a fair outcome. If rain prevents play on Thursday, the match will continue on Friday, October 31.
However, weather reports indicate that Friday could also see interruptions. AccuWeather predicts “broken intervals with scattered showers” and an 84% chance of rain, raising concerns about a second consecutive washout.
If rain spoils both days, Australia will progress to the final by virtue of finishing higher on the points table. The Aussies would then meet South Africa, who overcame England in Wednesday’s semifinal clash.
The Historical Rivalry
The India vs Australia rivalry in women’s cricket has often delivered thrilling encounters. India’s 2017 triumph, led by Harmanpreet Kaur’s 171 not out, remains one of the tournament’s most iconic performances. With the home crowd backing them, India will aim to recreate that energy and make it to their third-ever Women’s World Cup final.
All eyes now remain on Navi Mumbai’s skies as both sides await a chance to battle it out for a spot in the championship clash.
