Suryakumar Shares Shreyas Iyer Recovery Update
India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has shared an encouraging update on Shreyas Iyer’s health, bringing relief to Indian cricket fans. Iyer sustained a laceration to his spleen during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney last Saturday. After scans revealed internal bleeding, he was immediately admitted to a local hospital for further treatment.
Suryakumar Speaks About His First Call After the Incident
Addressing the media in Canberra ahead of the five-match T20I series, Suryakumar explained that he tried to contact Iyer right after hearing the news. When he couldn’t reach him, he turned to the team physio, Kamlesh Jain, for updates.
“The first day I got to know he was injured, I called him. Then I found out he didn’t have his phone with him, so I called the physio, Kamlesh Jain. But I have been talking to him over the last two days. He has been replying. Agar woh reply kar raha hai (If he is able to reply over the phone), that means he is stable. It’s looking good…the doctors are there already. They will keep him under observation for a few days. However, he has been replying and talking to everyone, which is good,” he said in the pre-match conference.
Suryakumar also noted that the fact Iyer is responsive and able to talk is a strong sign that he is on the path to recovery.
BCCI Confirms Iyer Shifted Out of ICU
On Tuesday, PTI reported that Iyer had been moved out of the ICU in Sydney. His condition is now stable, though he will remain under medical care for a few more days.
“He has been shifted out of ICU and may take a few more days before he is discharged from hospital in Sydney,” a BCCI source privy to the development told PTI on condition of anonymity.
According to the report, Iyer’s family will soon travel to Sydney to be by his side during the recovery period. He is not part of India’s T20I squad and will continue his treatment in Sydney until fully fit.
This positive update from Suryakumar Yadav and the BCCI has reassured fans who were deeply concerned about Shreyas Iyer’s spleen injury following the Sydney ODI.
