Mithun Manhas Set To Become BCCI President
Former Delhi captain Mithun Manhas is reportedly set to become the next President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Media reports suggest he will be elected unopposed at the board’s annual general meeting (AGM) on September 28. According to the Times of India, a high-profile meeting was held where board officials deliberated over several candidates, including former India captain Sourav Ganguly, Harbhajan Singh, and Raghuram Bhat.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia strongly backed Manhas, and after legal opinions and discussions that stretched into the early hours, the board finalized the decision to appoint a cricketer as President, in line with the Supreme Court-appointed Lodha Committee’s recommendations incorporated in the BCCI constitution in 2019.
First From J&K and Uncapped Cricketer To Lead
Mithun Manhas will make history as the first person from Jammu and Kashmir to head the BCCI. At 45, he is also the first uncapped cricketer to hold the prestigious position. Manhas moved to Delhi after representing Jammu and Kashmir at the U-16 level and went on to play 157 first-class matches, captaining Delhi alongside players like Gautam Gambhir, Aakash Chopra, and Virender Sehwag.
During his IPL career, Manhas played for Delhi Daredevils, Pune Warriors, and Chennai Super Kings, gaining recognition for his leadership and consistency. His appointment as BCCI President marks a significant milestone in Indian cricket administration, blending experience on the field with strategic leadership off it.
