PCB Files ICC Complaint Against Andy Pycroft
A major controversy erupted after India’s seven-wicket victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 at Dubai. Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav and his team refused to shake hands with their Pakistani counterparts, dedicating their win to the armed forces after Operation Sindoor. This gesture followed a Pakistan-backed terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 tourists.
PCB’s Formal ICC Complaint Against Pycroft
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) reacted strongly by filing a formal complaint with the International Cricket Council. They claimed match referee Andy Pycroft had instructed the captains not to shake hands at the toss. The PCB demanded Pycroft’s removal from the Asia Cup through a complaint sent to ICC General Manager Wasim Khan.
Andy Pycroft’s Cricket Journey and Refereeing Career
Andy Pycroft, a former Zimbabwe cricketer, played just three Tests and 20 ODIs in his short career. His standout moment came when he scored 104 runs against an Australian B side that included Shane Warne and Steve Waugh.
After retirement, Pycroft took up coaching and management roles in Zimbabwe cricket. He coached the Under-19 side, served as a selector, and briefly led the national team before stepping down during the 2003 World Cup due to disputes.
Since 2009, Pycroft has become one of cricket’s most experienced match referees. He has officiated in 103 Test matches, ranking as the fourth most experienced referee in Test cricket history. His connection with India dates back to his Test debut in Harare in 1992, where he scored 39 and 46 runs. Recently, he officiated when Nitish Kumar Reddy struck his maiden Test century during India’s 2024–25 tour of Australia.
