Abhishek Nayar Reveals Kuldeep Sand Practice Secrets
Kuldeep Yadav’s resurgence in the Asia Cup 2025 has impressed everyone, and Abhishek Nayar has revealed the secret behind it. The left-arm wrist spinner has collected Player of the Match awards in both of India’s victories, thanks to his sharper bite and improved rhythm.
Speaking on Sony Sports, the former India cricketer and assistant coach explained that Kuldeep’s determination and unusual training drills, guided by his childhood coach, brought a major turnaround in his game.
Practising on Sand to Sharpen Skills
“Maine baat cheet ki thi unse ki kya kiya tha unhone. Woh kaafi interesting hai kyunki woh ret pe gendbaazi karte they jahan pe pitch banaya nahin hai, taaki vahan pe gend jo ruk ke aati hai, vahan tez daalenge toh unko aur bite milega (I spoke to him. It’s exciting, he used to bowl on sand where the ball stops. He bowled with speed to gain more bite),” Nayar revealed.
Training on loose surfaces gave Kuldeep more control and extra grip, which translated into greater impact on flat tracks like those in Dubai.
Technical Changes in Run-Up
“That is one thing. He (Kuldeep) also changed his run-up; the angle at which he ran he made it straight. Also, he jumped a bit too much before, which has changed, allowing him to transfer a lot more momentum,” Nayar added.
By making his run-up straighter and cutting down on excessive jump, Kuldeep now generates better momentum through the crease, improving his accuracy and consistency.
Support from His Childhood Coach
“Aur kaafi log kaafi kuch keh rahe the. But you always have a coach, jo aapko bachpan se jaanta hai (A lot of people were saying plenty of things. But when you have a coach, who you know from the beginning, it is easier),” Nayar pointed out.
“He helped Kuldeep and whatever you are seeing is the result of his hard work,” the former India assistant coach said.
Kuldeep Yadav’s story is a reminder of how persistence, technical tweaks, and the backing of a trusted mentor can bring success at the highest level.
