Shivam Dube Reveals Morne’s Advice After 34 vs UAE
Shivam Dube’s power-hitting ability with the bat has never been questioned. The Indian all-rounder is one of the cleanest strikers in the game, often dispatching spinners into the stands with ease. However, on Wednesday in Dubai during Asia Cup 2025, his bowling grabbed the spotlight as he delivered an impressive spell of 3/4 from just two overs against the UAE.
“Morne has been working with me since I came back into the Indian team for the England series. He has given me certain specific advice and I worked on them,” said Dube after India’s nine-wicket win. “He told me to bowl a line that is slightly outside the off-stump. He also worked with me in developing a slower delivery and tweaked my run-up a bit. The head coach and the skipper had told me that my bowling would have a role to play.”
India’s Comfortable Win Over UAE
UAE could only post 57 runs in their innings. India chased the target in just 4.3 overs without needing Dube’s batting firepower. Speaking about his form with the bat, the 32-year-old said:
“For the last two months, I have worked a great deal on my fitness. As far as my batting is concerned, I know I have a role to play (as a power-hitter) in the middle overs. I know over the years, bowlers targeted me with short balls, and I have worked on increasing my range of shots.”
His improved batting preparation highlights India’s strong depth in the middle order. With bowlers also wary of his clean hitting, Dube’s dual role adds significant balance to the squad. His three-wicket burst against UAE underlined the importance of India’s all-round options ahead of tougher Asia Cup 2025 fixtures.
Pride in Representing India
Although India’s victory came against a lower-ranked side, Dube recalled Gautam Gambhir’s message about the importance of every game.
“Whenever we play for India, we don’t consider any match as a warm-up match. It’s about pride to play for the country,” Dube said in the post-match press conference. “Be it against UAE or Pakistan, every game is important for me. Gauti bhai always said this: whenever you represent India, it is a chance to do something miraculous.”
