Ben Stokes on Bumrah Return Ahead of Lord’s Test
After England’s crushing 336-run defeat in the second Test, skipper Ben Stokes addressed the media, hoping for a break from the usual Jasprit Bumrah questions. Despite Bumrah being rested for workload management, India dominated the match, setting the stage for the star pacer’s return in the third Test at Lord’s starting July 10.
“I thought I’d get through a press conference without being asked about Jasprit Bumrah,” Stokes joked, acknowledging Bumrah’s looming threat. “We play against each other so often, you know what you will be faced with, so you put it into practice in training.”
Stokes admitted that replicating Bumrah’s unique angles and pace in the nets is nearly impossible, even with the help of coaches and sidearms. “It’s always tough to replicate something that will come down at you in a game,” he said.
Jofra Archer Still a Maybe for Lord’s
While India will welcome back Bumrah, England remains undecided about unleashing Jofra Archer. Stokes said Archer was present with the team during the second Test to build up his workload but made no promises about his inclusion. “Everyone’s in consideration for the game at Lord’s,” he said.
England’s Focus: Stay Level-Headed
Reflecting on the team’s performance and mindset, Stokes emphasized the importance of staying grounded. “We’ve had some unbelievable wins and some bad defeats. As a team, we’re quite good at staying level through it all,” he noted.
While disappointed at missing the chance to carry momentum from the first Test win, Stokes urged the team to move forward quickly. “We have to wipe this one under the carpet. Lord’s day one will be here soon.”
With Jasprit Bumrah ready to return and England seeking answers, all eyes now turn to the historic venue for what promises to be a thrilling third Test.
