The West Delhi Lions lifted the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 title with a six-wicket win over Central Delhi Kings at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday. Skipper Nitish Rana once again proved his class, scoring an unbeaten 79 to guide his side to a historic triumph.
Central Delhi Kings Fight Back With Strong Lower-Order Stand
Batting first, the Central Delhi Kings struggled early under the pressure of a grand final. Wickets fell in quick succession as West Delhi’s bowlers struck regularly. At 78/6, the Kings looked in deep trouble, and the Lions appeared fully in control.
The game changed when Yugal Saini and Pranshu Vijayran stepped up with a crucial seventh-wicket partnership. Saini anchored the innings with a fighting 65 off 48 balls, mixing singles with timely boundaries. Vijayran played the aggressor, smashing a quick-fire unbeaten 50 from just 24 deliveries. Their 78-run stand revived the Kings’ innings and pushed the total to 173/7 in 20 overs.
For the Lions, Manan Bhardwaj bowled brilliantly and took 2/11 in three overs. Shivank Vashisht was equally effective with 2/12 in two overs. Captain Rana contributed with the ball too, picking a wicket while conceding just 16 runs in his four overs.
Nitish Rana and Hrithik Shokeen Seal the Chase
The Lions’ chase began shakily as Simarjeet Singh and Arun Pundir removed key wickets early. At 48/3 inside five overs, pressure mounted on the Lions. However, Rana absorbed the tension and played a captain’s knock.
He added 42 runs with Mayank Gusain before finding the perfect partner in Hrithik Shokeen. While Shokeen anchored with a calm 42* off 27 balls, Rana controlled the chase with aggressive stroke play. Their unbeaten stand guided the Lions home with comfort, handing them the DPL 2025 trophy.
The final will be remembered for Rana’s leadership, the Kings’ fighting comeback, and the Lions’ dominance when it mattered most.
