Jaydev Unadkat Pens Emotional Note as Pujara Retires
Cheteshwar Pujara retires from all forms of Indian cricket after a remarkable career spanning nearly 20 years. The 37-year-old batter, who last played for India in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, featured in 103 Tests and scored 7,195 runs at an average of 43.60. Across 278 first-class matches, he piled up 21,301 runs since debuting in 2005.
Jaydev Unadkat’s Touching Note for Pujara
Long-time teammate Jaydev Unadkat penned a heartfelt message as Pujara called time on his career. He recalled how the veteran batter pushed for him at Kolkata Knight Riders trials in 2010, which led to his first IPL breakthrough.
“Hi Jaydev, this is Cheteshwar. I have had a word with Dada and you have to go for KKR trials. You are bowling very well so keep it up!” Unadkat remembered.
Unadkat added, “Your grit and determination for the game is something that everyone talks about and will talk about for generations to come. But there was that other side of you, the funnier/naughtier/louder side, where we fought (sometimes violently!) for every fifa battle and took the longest to play every hand at the cards game and argued on absolutely silly topics.
“Today when you are putting an end to your illustrious career, I am super proud, although a bit emotional. I am super proud to call you my senior first, my colleague second, and my brother to round it all off!”
Pujara’s Farewell Message
Pujara, India’s dependable No. 3, announced his retirement with gratitude.
“Wearing the Indian jersey, singing the anthem, and trying my best each time I stepped on the field – it’s impossible to put into words what it truly meant. But as they say, all good things must come to an end, and with immense gratitude, I have decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
He confirmed his continued association with the sport, already stepping into commentary during the India-England Test series.
Celebrating Pujara’s Legacy
Pujara’s batting resilience defined India’s Test success in many overseas tours. He played 103 Tests and five ODIs, leaving an impact that shaped a generation of Indian cricketers.
With Jaydev Unadkat and countless others celebrating his career, tributes continue to pour in for Cheteshwar Pujara—India’s rock at No. 3.
