Sanju Samson’s 121 Powers Kochi Blue Tigers to Kerala League Classic
Kerala’s very own Sanju Samson lit up the Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram with a stunning knock of 121 runs from just 51 deliveries. His explosive innings guided Kochi Blue Tigers to a sensational last-ball win over Aries Kollam Sailors in the Kerala Cricket League. Chasing a daunting 237, Samson’s fireworks turned the game on its head and reignited his case for the Asia Cup 2025.
Samson’s Record-Breaking Batting Display
After a disappointing outing the previous day, Samson returned with a vengeance. Coming in lower down the order again, he wasted no time to dominate. He smashed two boundaries and a six in the very first over, racing to a half-century in just 16 balls — the quickest of the tournament.
With 14 fours and seven sixes, Samson brought the 11,000-strong crowd to their feet. His hundred came in only 42 balls, and his eventual 121 kept Kochi’s hopes alive despite wickets tumbling around him.
Mohammed Ashique’s Last-Ball Six Seals It
As the game boiled down to the final delivery, young Mohammed Ashique had the responsibility of finishing it. With six runs needed off the last ball, he cleared the ropes to hand Kochi a dramatic win. Samson’s breathtaking innings, combined with Ashique’s composure, broke Kollam’s stronghold in unforgettable fashion.
Samson on Kerala’s Rising Cricket Talent
Receiving the Player of the Match award, Samson thanked fans for their support and reflected on Kerala’s cricketing depth:
“It’s not easy to lose at home. But I thank all who came out today. Honestly, I didn’t know much about these young boys, but after spending time with them, I can say Kerala cricket has exciting talent. With this depth, I believe we’ll soon see another Kerala cricketer in the Indian team.”
Asia Cup 2025 Selection Debate
Samson’s T20 form for India has already been exceptional, with three centuries across just five innings in 2024. He ended last year with 436 runs at a strike rate of 180.16.
But heading into the Asia Cup 2025 in Dubai, his spot remains uncertain. With Shubman Gill as vice-captain and Abhishek Sharma entering the squad, India’s think tank faces a tough call. Samson’s latest heroics, however, have reminded everyone that he is still very much in contention.
