Madan Lal Questions Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Asia Cup 2025 Omission
India’s 15-member Asia Cup 2025 squad, announced on August 19, surprised many as explosive opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was left out while Shubman Gill was named vice‑captain. Former cricketer Madan Lal expressed astonishment, stating: “Sometimes you feel surprised that a player like Yashasvi Jaiswal is not in the team. Gill is a good choice as he is performing well. In the coming time, it is possible that Gill will play in all three formats… The players who make the team win a match must not be left out. We have such a good team that we may win the Asia Cup.”
Selection Surprises and Squad Makeup
Alongside Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer, Washington Sundar, and Ravi Bishnoi were also omitted. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar clarified that having three openers—Gill, Abhishek Sharma, and Sanju Samson—left no spot for Jaiswal, with Sharma’s secondary bowling skill giving him an edge.
IPL Form vs Team Strategy
Jaiswal had a stellar IPL 2025 season, scoring 559 runs at a strike rate of 160, while Gill notched 650 runs at a strike rate of 156, leading Gujarat Titans to playoffs. Despite his form, Jaiswal’s exclusion hints at strategic decisions around balance and experience.
Reactions from Cricket Community
The omission sparked strong reactions. Ravichandran Ashwin labeled it “not fair,” questioning why Jaiswal, part of the T20 World Cup squad and T20I setup, was dropped.
At least one expert, however, responded with caution. Sunil Gavaskar sidestepped the debate, urging players and fans not to fuel controversy
