Rayudu Explains Suryakumar’s Controversial Catch in T20 World
Over a year after India’s historic win in the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa, Ambati Rayudu has shared surprising details about Suryakumar Yadav’s famous catch. The dismissal of David Miller shifted momentum toward India, but the moment also sparked debate over boundary rope placement.
Speaking on the ‘Unfiltered Podcast,’ Rayudu revealed that the world feed crew had placed a chair and a screen near the boundary during a break. To make space, the rope was pushed back. Even after the equipment was removed, the rope was not restored to its original spot.
“There were world feed commentators. During the break, what usually happens is they put a chair there and a screen in order to help the broadcasters see what is happening. That is why they pushed the rope backwards a little bit. But, they left it like that (even after taking the screen and the chair away). That is how the boundary became a little bigger for us. We (the commentators) could see it from above. It was god’s plan,” Rayudu explained.
Surya’s Take and Rayudu’s Final Remark
When asked whether it would have been a six under normal conditions, Suryakumar yadav said: “I don’t know if it was a six (in natural circumstances) or not. If the rope had been placed at its normal position, maybe Surya would’ve run from inside.”
Rayudu insisted the dismissal was fair and ended the debate with faith. “End of the day, God was with us,” he said. Although some players questioned the rope’s position, the controversy eventually faded as India’s victory took the spotlight.
