Danish Kaneria backs Irfan Pathan on Afridi row
Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has supported Irfan Pathan’s no-filter remarks on Shahid Afridi. Pathan, during a podcast interview, called Afridi a “badtameez aadmi” (ill-mannered man) while recalling their heated altercation during India’s 2006 tour of Pakistan.
Pathan revealed that Afridi provoked him by pulling his hair on a plane, which led to an argument. The former Indian pacer said Afridi later used abusive words, prompting Pathan to fire back strongly. The story resurfaced on social media, sparking widespread debate.
Kaneria says Afridi lacks decency
Danish Kaneria reacted to the viral clip on X (formerly Twitter), backing Pathan’s words. He accused Afridi of regularly making personal attacks, often targeting families or religion. “Irfan bhai, you’re absolutely right. Class and decency clearly aren’t his strengths,” Kaneria wrote.
Kaneria has long shared his issues with Afridi, having previously accused the former Pakistan captain of discriminatory behaviour in the dressing room. He alleged that Afridi encouraged teammates to distance themselves from him because of his faith.
Ongoing feud between Afridi and Kaneria
The rift between the two has lasted for years. While Kaneria insists he was targeted and isolated during his playing career, Afridi has denied the claims. Afridi dismissed Kaneria’s accusations as false, calling him a liar who is trying to gain sympathy following his spot-fixing ban in England.
The ongoing war of words shows no signs of ending, as both continue to make strong claims against each other.
